Happy New Year everyone!!
It feels like I haven't written to you in weeks, which is accurate. I'm sorry I've been MIA since November but just think, I have so much to catch you all up on now so get ready for a nice long blog post.
First off, some of you will remember that I was doing NaNoWriMo in November. Well, good news - I won! Woot! That's right, my friends, I wrote over 50,000 words in 30 days.
So, for the month of December I thought I'd take a little break and let my creative tank refill because it was almost on empty. Now, I'm feeling refreshed and ready to throw myself back into writing. Exciting!!
I hope you all had a wonderful festive season, spending time with good friends and family and eating way too much yummy food. My Christmas was spent with people that I love, relaxing and having fun. It was a great day.
I'd like to talk to you about a few things that are inspiring me creatively at the moment. The first being the movie Les Miserables. Has everyone seen it? If you haven't then you need to and if you have then let me just say - how amazing is it? I have watched it twice and I would love to see it again. I have seen the live stage production and was a bit hesitant to watch the movie, thinking it would disappoint, but I was wrong. The movie is amazing.
Another movie that has kept me thinking the past few days is Life of Pi. I watched this on New Years Eve and was fascinated by it. I knew it was going to be visually stunning because Ang Lee is a creative genius, but I was still amazed. If you get the opportunity, watch it in 3D, it's worth it. I was also a little thrown by the ending. I don't want to discuss it here because I'm sure some of you haven't seen it yet and I don't want to ruin it, but if anyone has seen it and would like to discuss the ending with me, I'd love someone to talk about it with. Email me - email@example.com
Now, away from movies and on to music. Have you all heard Bruno Mars' new song, 'When I Was Your Man'? I love it. I've been listening to it on repeat for days. I think I'm wearing my iPod out. For those that haven't heard it (and for those who have, you get to enjoy it again), here is the audio track. There is no film clip yet.
Isn't it just beautiful? I have been a fan of Bruno for a long time (since Grenade) but I think this is my favorite song of his. Either this or 'It Will Rain'.
Ummmm, so I have a little bit of exciting news on the publishing front. I have a meeting with Penguin. Yep, I'll be flying to their Melbourne office in two weeks to meet with them and pitch my novel. It's not a contract or anything even close to that but having the opportunity to pitch to such an esteemed publisher in person, it's such an amazing opportunity and I'm very excited. I'll be sure to write a post about my trip to keep you all up to date.
One of my best friends came up to me yesterday and randomly just said, "This is the year that your book is going to get published!" I was a bit stunned for a moment but then I smiled. I really hope she's right.
One final thing, I have an Instagram account now and I'll be posting lots of random pictures, some writing related, some not. Feel free to follow me and keep track of what I'm looking at. My user name is - HannahDowning81
I've missed you all!! I'll be blogging more frequently now that my writing break is over so stay tuned.
Again, happy New Year! 2013 is my year for dancing in the rain!
