Long time no speak, my friends. I have had so many kind messages on Facebook and Twitter and I want to thank you all for your kind concern. For those of you who don’t know, (you should follow me on FB or twitter to get regular updates!!!), I spent the past 3 weeks in hospital and recovering from surgery. I am fine, healing nicely and am now back at work. The kind words and encouragement from all of you were greatly appreciated and helped to keep me entertained while I was in the hospital.
Boy, do I have a lot to catch you all up on since my last post!! I had never been in hospital before so I wasn’t aware of how mind numbingly boring it was going to be. How many of you have sat in a bed for 3 weeks with nothing to do? I feel bad for those of you that have and I can honestly say that I feel your pain. *fist-pump*
So, what did I do while I had nothing else to do but sit and try and heal from surgery? I watched a lot of tv, read several books and thought about my writing. (Okay, if I’m being pretty honest, those are all pretty awesome things to do!) I have become obsessed with Ellen Degeneres. Yes, the queen of talk shows has become my idol. I found that her show (reruns) is actually on several times per day and via an app my iPhone I can set my Tivo to record at home (how awesome is that????) and I may have recorded dozens of Ellen’s show. I can sit and watch her all day… seriously. I know that might sound sad or depressing, but let me tell you, Ellen is hysterical. Thanks, Ellen, for helping me to laugh through my recovery from surgery and for entertaining me when I was sitting for 22 hours per day.
As well as falling for Ellen, I read three book (which was awesome to have time to just sit and read) and also plotted some of my own writing. I know that’s what you’re all here to hear about so I’ll get explaining. I’m working on a new YA paranormal romance that I’m titling “Reminiscence”. It’s about a Guardian Angel. I’m really excited about this plot for this story and it’s what I’m currently writing while I’m on a break from writing The Walker Series (I’ll explain below). I also came up with the startings of a sequel series to The Walker Series which I’m tentatively calling The Phoenix Series. It’s going to be set about 150 years after the end of the Walker Series and talk about the effects of what happens at the end of the first series. I’m super excited about this idea, but it’s still in the very early planning stages. I’ll let you know more as it develops.
So, why am I pausing The
Series? *gasp* Simple really, I want
to make sure I’m not running away with myself. I haven’t even sold book 1 in
the series yet and I don’t want to write a whole four books and have a
publisher be interested but want lots of changes (which WILL happen, it’s going
to sell without some changes). That would mean having to rewrite all the books.
This way, I can make it easier to make the story flow properly. I have drafts
of books 1 and 2 which is a great start and I have solid plans for books 3 and
4 so I’m in a great position to write the rest of the series while still being
versatile and flexible for the publisher. Good idea, right? Walker
In the mean time, I get to work on new a project which is really exciting. So, Reminiscence is keeping my mind busy at the moment. I’ve been doing some research into the YA market and a lot of people are saying that angel books are over saturated and the market is moving away from them but I’m not letting that put me off. It’s going to take me a good year to get a manuscript anywhere near polished enough to be ready to try and sell and the market will have changed again by then. Also, I don’t put much stock in what’s currently popular. I think if you have a strong story and interesting, likable characters then you can write any genre and people will enjoy the story. I could be really wrong in believing that, but it’s what I’m going with hahaha
I think it’s important as well to take a minute to show my distress and heartbreak over the tragedy in
last week. I was shocked and
saddened by the theatre massacre and my heart and best wishes go out to the
survivors and the families of those who lost their lives. I also want to give
special honor to the three men who died protecting the women they loved, they
were true gentlemen and the world is worse off having lost them. Colorado
Also, many of you know that I love the Twilight franchise. I love the books, I love the movies, I love the actors and I love Stephenie Meyer. I know that many people criticize this series for bad writing, bad acting, actors who are bad role models etc but I love it. I can’t explain it. Are the books amazingly written? No, I don’t claim that they are but there was something about the story that captured my heart. Are the movies Oscar worthy? No, I don’t think anyone thinks they are life changing… but are they good representations of the story? Absolutely and I love watching them. Are the actors perfect? Of course not! These are young people in their twenties who have been thrust into the spotlight with very little preparation and I think they are coping as well as they can… some better than others.
Why am I talking about this? If you have any access to any form of media then I’m sure you’ve heard the news about Kristen Stewart… I just wanted to give my opinion on it. I have long believed that Kristen and Robert Pattinson were a couple. I was in the first group of believers many years ago when most people thought it was all rumor. I have loved watching them grow as a couple and was honestly saddened and shocked to hear the news that Kristen had been caught in an “affair”. I instantly dismissed the rumor and fake pictures. I know well enough than to believe something without proof. But then Kristen released her statement apologizing to Rob and I was stunned. I’ve seen a lot of comments online bashing Kristen, and it just all makes me so sad. I don’t know what happened, none of us do, but it’s not any of our business. IF this is all true then my heart goes out to Rob and Rupert’s wife and children affected by this. I don’t think there is any need to bash Kristen though. She’s a young woman and she made a mistake. What happens between her and Rob now is for them to work out between themselves. Millions of girls bashing Kristen on Twitter isn’t going to sway Rob’s decision. He won’t even read any of it! Anyway, my opinion doesn’t count but I found myself surprisingly affected by this news and I wanted to express my opinion. Trust me, I don’t condone cheating, I’ve been cheated on and I think it’s one of the lowest things anyone can do, but it’s not my place to judge Kristen or anyone else for their own life choices. Let’s all focus our energy on something positive and let these two couples make their difficult decisions in peace. End.
Anyway, I’m going to run… there’s another episode of Ellen starting in 7 minutes and I don’t want to miss it!! Again, thank you all for the support during my recovery and you can expect regular updates and blog posts from now on. Hopefully with some exciting news soon!!
