In the past 2 weeks I have read 8 books. I don't know if any of you are following the What Hannah Is Reading page, but if you have been checking on it, you would have seen the list of books read jump up every day. I just couldn't get enough of reading (which is a wonderful thing). But, last night, I finished the third book (book four is not released yet) in a series and went to choose another book from my bookcase. I looked at all the unread titles and selected one but after a few pages I found that I couldn't get into it. I put it back and selected another unread book but had the same reaction. There was nothing wrong with either of these books, I have been eagerly anticipating reading both of them, and yet I couldn't find any interest in them. I had a revelation -
I WANTED TO SPEND TIME WITH MY OWN CHARACTERS, NOT SOMEONE ELSE'S!!!
It was so liberating. If you've been following this blog for a few months (or from the beginning) you would notice that I have periods where I write like crazy and periods where I feel stuck. Well, I'm back on a writing kick. I love these times. I get so much done and my characters feel so real that it's easy to write them, as if they are telling me how they want the story to be.
Most of my pre-readers have gotten back to me and the verdict has been beyond my wildest dreams. THEY ALL LOVE IT! And some are begging for book 2 NOW even though I've only just started writing the first draft. Each of them has given me some invaluable feedback and so I am now doing a rewrite/edit taking their comments into account.
YAY! I really feel like things are moving forward to The Walker Series and I'm more excited than words about it. I've been sourcing publishers and agents and have a few really good leads that I'm going to follow up when the final draft is edited, polished and ready for submission. It's a very exciting time and I promise to keep you all updated on the progress.
In other news, can you all believe that it's February already? This year is already going so fast, but I'm not upset about that. There are so many exciting things happening in 2012 that I can't wait for them all to happen.
BRING IT ALL ON!!
