New Releases and Updates

I want to thank you all for the wonderful comments on the MEGA post I did last week. It was a lot of fun to talk with you all and I hope you will continue to comment.

BIG NEWS!! I have had 2 short stories accepted for publishing in 2 different Anthologies. The first is from Omnific Publishing and is called "Summer Lovin' Anthology - Summer Breeze" which is due for release on July 5th. This is a very special anthology because all the proceeds made from book sales will be donated to SAVE THE TA TAS which is a breast cancer charity. The second anthology, due for release on July 31st, is being published by Ethics Trading and is also for charity. All money raised from this Romance Anthology will go to Medecins Sans Frontieres. I will post links for where these can be purchased once they are released.

Onto writing news - as you know from previous posts, I've had an idea for a new series of books and have been hard at work, researching... Well, the research is at a point where I have a good understanding of my topic and I HAVE STARTED WRITING!! And not only that, the story is flowing out of me at a startling rate. In 2 weeks I have written almost 100 pages and am still going strong. I have 4 wonderful ladies who are pre-reading for me and most of the feedback has been really positive so far. They are giving me excellent  suggestions and pointing out areas where I could do more development, but on the whole I'm absolutely thrilled with how the first draft is coming along!! So, as a nice little treat for you all, I thought I'd give you a preview. Please keep in mind that this is a first draft and it is still very raw, but I hope you like it -

Teaser 1 -
The door was heavy and I had to use both arms to pull it open. At first I thought the safe was empty but when I ran my hand inside, I discovered a small velvet pouch. I pulled it out, opening the drawstring and emptying the contents into my hand. It was an old fashioned pocket-watch. I stared at it, wondering why this watch had been locked in a safe, in a secret room, hidden in a locked chest. Was it valuable? I turned the object over and studied it. Sure, it looked like it was old, it was made of gold but was lighter than it looked like it should be. The cover from over the face was engraved with a swirly pattern and some words in a language I didn’t recognize. aequitas et libertas ad omnes. The words didn’t mean anything to me, but as I read them out loud to myself, testing them in my mouth, the watch warmed in my hand and vibrated softly. This reaction only lasted a second and then the metal went cold and it lay still in my palm again. Maybe I had imagined it.

Teaser 2 -

“You better start at the beginning, I really have no idea what you are talking about,” I admitted, sitting on the edge of the bed.
Emma grabbed a pillow and sat on the floor, hugging the pillow to her chest.
“Did Sophia ever tell you about what you are, or where your heritage comes from?” she started.
“I don’t know a lot about my family. Grams’ parents came here from England when she was a little girl. That’s all I know.”
“Do you know why you are so special?” she pushed.
I pulled my legs up under me and gave her a wary look.
“You’re a witch, Holly,” she said confidently.
I stared at her, mouth open and then burst out laughing.
“I know it’s hard for you to believe. You should have been told about this as a child and been given the proper amount of time to adjust... but circumstances being what they are, you’re just going to have to trust me about this,” Emma said.
“You’re crazy!” I told her, sliding back a bit on the bed.
“No. I’m a witch too,” she replied with a smile.
“Prove it!” I demanded. “Float a pencil or shoot lightning out of your hands or something.”
“We’re not those kinds of witches, or at least, we haven’t been for a very long time."

I'm sure that I will send you more teasers as the writing develops so keep an eye on my posts for more. I'd love to have some feedback so if you have anything to say about the teasers, please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this post.

I think that's about all the news I have for today, but I think 2 book releases and a preview of my new novel make for a good post, don't you?

I'm about to go and have lunch with some dear friends at one of my favorite restaurants so I know that I'll be having a lovely afternoon. I hope you are all smiling and reading something that you enjoy.

Until next time...

Hannah xx
